  Overview of the Event Join Diedre’s Match Walk Sunday, September 12, 2021 Diedre Alexander has stage IV colon cancer. Every glorious day she’s been gifted is the result of successful clinical trials for therapies to fight her cancer and administered at the HonorHealth Research Institute. Now it’s her turn to give back with Diedre’s Match Walk.   Her goal is $25,000 for individual donations to be matched by sponsorship dollars.  This will help to launch  a new clinical trial with the potential of saving thousands of lives. Donor dollars raised will be matched ! When you give a dollar it’s like giving two because sponsors will match your donation. Please strike your match and help Diedre launch a clinical trial.  100% of the donations will be earmarked for colon cancer clinical trials at HonorHealth Research Institute. Diedre's Match Walk - About the Walk

  About the Walk Some of my best ideas occur during meditation or in my dreams. When I heard that my cancer had metastasized to my bones I knew my time in this life was coming to a close. Rather than dwell on what I was losing, I decided to focus on what I could gain from the next part of my cancer journey. The last six years I have been in the care of the amazing medical team led by Dr. Michael Gordon, director of the HonorHealth Research Institute (HHRI). Under his guidance I have beaten the existing odds of stage IV colon cancer survivors by living a full and satisfying life. Every day now is a bonus day and I am grateful for being able to enjoy whatever time I have left. So now it’s time to give back to the people who have extended my life and to help others who will follow me.  This walk is my opportunity. The clinical trials that are conducted at HHRI may very well benefit me this autumn, and potentially thousands of others will benefit as well. My goal is to raise $25,00

Diedre's Match Walk - About Diedre

About Diedre I like to think of myself as a woman who defies her age, her disease, and anything that gets in my way of loving people. As is the case for many of you, my favorite quote comes from a movie:  Love is: L ife’s  O nly  V alid  E motion.  I believe unconditionally that love is the answer to everything in this life. We need to believe in each other and to love one another. Born in Minneapolis, MN, I lived most of my adult life in Michigan and then returned to Minnesota in my 40’s where I found my soul mate, Alexx.   Lovebirds from the start (we married in 1991), we eventually became snowbirds, making the move to Arizona where we’ve lived for the last 25 years. I’m as diversified in my interests as I was in my careers. After 15 years as an educator, I spent another 15 in the corporate world as a sales and marketing executive. The next 15 years were spent in theater and entertainment, ending my career life acting, radio disc jockeying, directing and producing plays that Alex

Diedre's Match Walk - About Honor Health Research Institute

  HonorHealth Research Institute is one of the leading early drug development programs in the nation. At any given time, more than 100 oncology trials are typically underway. Most are Phase I or “first in human” studies of new drugs or treatments; in fact, they offer more Phase I clinical trials than any other cancer center in Arizona, and are often the first site in the world to evaluate a new therapy in a Phase I clinical trial. You might think of a research institute as a sterile environment with quiet nerds working in their laboratory cubicles churning out data.  But if this is happening anywhere in the HHRI facility, none of the patients participating in the clinical trials are aware of it.  The facility is a reflection of the amazing people who work here. Dr. Michael Gordon is the director of HHRI, but he’s far more than the brilliant administrator who oversees the success of this operation. Diedre's Match Walk - Sponsorships

Diedre’s Match Walk is a final fundraiser for Diedre. It’s her opportunity to raise money for the Honor Health Research Institute so the work that has kept her alive the past six years will continue for others that follow her.   Extending time and quality of life is at the core of the research being done at HHRI.   Although Diedre’s cancer has advanced to a critical stage that is shortening her time, she remains hopeful that one more clinical trial might be just what she needs.   If not, one will surely be available to help others. As she reaches out to her friends and family to make individual donations, she is also seeking sponsors interested in supporting research for treatment of colon cancer to match the individual donations being made.   Sponsors can identify any amount in $1,000 increments.   Whenever the individual donations hit $1,000 markers, our sponsors’ dollars will be used to match those donations.  We currently have $25,000 promised in sponsorships ready to match ind

Individual Donations : As of 9/8/21 - $25,743 increased by 4,200 and EXCEEDED GOAL BY $743! As of 9/3/21 - $21,543 increased by $160 now $3,457 from goal.
